    1. Creating a Life of Love and Joy.

    Creating a life of love and joy is about living a life of love. Would we not be happier and more fulfilled in an environment of love than one of grudges, disrespect and arguments? Love enriches life and where we fall short of living a life of love with our thoughts and actions we find stress, misery and poor health.

    Communication is more than just words, there are emotions attached some heartfelt. And, we communicate in many ways, our acts or deeds for instance. These can be fearful, hateful, produce enemies, and be destructive or they can be of peace, love, kinship, constructive. The first group is painful, harsh, poisoning the mind and body. The second group is peaceful, serene, healthful and healing to the mind and body.

    When we live with fear we do not love ourselves we are harming ourselves. If daily we fear an issue; we are programming ourselves just as if we were an athlete practicing over and over in his mind a certain procedure. The result we set ourselves up to make it happen. This works in many areas of life - doesn't it.

    Many things we do are learned habits, we certainly did not know of them prior to being conceived and thus we can choose to unlearn them or simply learn a better way. This can take as little as 21 - 30 days practicing/living the new habit and its easy if we take on one item at a time.

    If we suffer anxiety or depression, have a quick temper, poor memory; are ill... regardless, improving our diet can only help. You would truly be surprised by the Metabolic Typing Diet. This can also be a major help in making a change, simply by getting the nutritional requirements your body and brain needs and eliminating the wrong foods for your metabolic type.

    Sleep is often short changed in modern living. We need more time for projects, socializing, family, ourselves and we work into the night. When we do we are charging against the future, a debt that will be paid with interest. That interest will be time lost to sleeping-in, poor thinking and reaction time, safety issues, a quick temper/short fuse, anxiety, depression, illness or falling asleep at the wheel and the resulting accident, injuries and/or death. The lack of adequate sleep affects our life and everyone we come in contact with. The average person requires 8 hours of sleep. Every hour before midnight is worth 2 hours after midnight, as the body restores and rebuilds before midnight and after 1:00 AM it detoxifies and takes out the garbage. Early to bed and early to rise - refreshed, ready and fully recharged.

    Use Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for rapid relief of stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, guilt, fear and ending self-sabotage. And, any limiting negative emotion that holds you back from success in business, sports, the arts, and preserving the family. Remember to keep a Tapping Journal.

    Then changing old habits becomes a matter of living/practicing the change. Don't worry about backsliding, old habit pop-ups. Simply laugh HA-HA! I caught myself, forgive yourself and move-on with your new habit, without a thought or worry and you just won one! You see if you fight the old habit, it solidifies but if you brush it off without a thought and adopt your new habit, the new habit solidifies. You can like an athlete mentally practice reacting to a situation with your new habit - this really works.

    Beware of anyone, or program that teaches negativity, fear, hate, jealousy or harm to others. This is all mind and body poison and its found on television, at the movies, arcade games, video games, computer games and in society today. When watching any program, be it the news, sitcoms or the movies ask yourself does this program reflect the way I want my life to be? If not why would you allow the program into your life?

    Think positively and avoid being negative. See the world as a loving place, your glass as half full, better yet as overflowing. Keep a journal of all the blessings you receive. The way we see the world is a reflection of ourselves. Treat others, as you would have them treat you. Always look for the good in others and not at their past. Do not gossip. Smile and laugh everyday. Be a bright light. Enhance 5 friends day with a smile or kind comment. If your not happy smile laugh think happy be happy if you force it the brain and body will adopt the new emotion.

    Life without love would be pretty miserable...

    Let's look at it another way were outdoors and it's beautiful as far as the eye can see, yet we focus on the trash left by ourselves and others. We collect it and soon we have bags of trash just piling up, The bags of thrash are in our way, we have to walk around, over, push through and carry all of it. And, all the time we are picking up more trash and its all we see. Yet we are outdoors and it's beautiful in every direction if we would just look up! Life is like that, we can look for and collect trash or we can look for the innocence and create happiness. Happiness is better its also healthier physically and mentally.

    A wonderful author Gerald G. Jampolsky, M.D. and his wife Diane V. Cirincione, Ph.D., gets to the root of happiness and love (for the full range of issues review their books). Jampolsky states that if we give up our habit of judging people, just walk away form our judgements, look for the innocence and forgive (the past, ourselves, family, God, supreme being, everything of everyone) we will find happiness and joy. For a moment think about it, walk away from judgements, look for the innocence, and forgive everyone of everything including yourself. A lot of hurt, of being upset, anger (mind & body poison), bitterness (mind & body poison), hate (mind & body poison), jealousy (mind & body Poison) and a lot more would be eliminated from our lives. We would lift a huge load off our shoulders and be able to live in the present unencumbered, unchained from the past and no longer collecting it in the present.

    While attending the Autism's Society of America's 2006 Conference, In Providence RI, I found a beautiful reply to the brutal and hateful attacks on September Eleventh of Two Thousand and One. Across the street and in two other locations in the city were hand made ceramic tiles of hope, love, healing and forgiveness. A total of 10,000 tiles were handcrafted and mounted in love. What a totally different response than what was intended, the people in Providence responded in love and care, they healed and grew stronger. The perpetrators sank deeper into their world of all consuming hate. Poisoning their mind and body even further. Providence moved on thinking clearly, healed and indeed stronger in mind, body and spirit. Love and Forgiveness are incredibly powerful. Would you rather live in constant hate, fear and turmoil as many in the world do, where it has solved nothing and indeed created misery, poverty and death for centuries upon centuries. Never accomplishing peace or whatever goal they had intended. OR, would you rather live a life of love and forgiveness free to be healthy, happy - indeed joyful and spiritually alive! What incredibly powerful tools to apply to our daily lives - could we not thrive with pure love and forgiveness!

    I recommend eliminating negative, violent, sexually explicit, caustic, hateful, fearful, etc. sources of input from your life and creating a life of love. If each of us do so we will bring love and peace to the world. And, definitely to our own life.

    When I was young I remember hearing of a family that had met in Vietnam and had two kids. They believed that the baby could hear as soon as the ears were developed so they started to read to the baby and the baby was in a sense part of the family even before birth. Both of their children were termed geniuses and the 15-year-old was pursuing three doctorates at once at the university. One as a medical doctor, the second in astrophysics and a third in biology. She wanted to be an astronaut.

    As a child develops in the womb from conception on, the child is creating cells in a atmosphere of love or one of fear, hate, shouting, violence, rage, death, and much worse. Anything the mother sees or is in the presence of so is that child. And, the writing is being written on the walls. Don't believe-it? How many murders, violent scenes, terrorist acts, fearful moments, how much negativity and worse is the average person exposed to in 9 months by television and video games? And, is it not incredibly realistic in everyway except smell! What about life itself? The same goes for the environmental toxin's mom is subjected too both indoors and out. In the food she eats, in her clothing (dry cleaning, washing chemicals, fire retardant and waterproofing chemicals, nano-technology chemicals, etc.) pesticides, herbicides, smog, gasoline and diesel fumes, etc. - so is the baby, only the baby is not so tolerant. It is up to us to create a life of love for our children, one that is toxin free.

    A Stanford Professor, Dr. William Tiller, has stated that if we want to create a life of love that we need to live a life of love. As we replace millions of cells every day, they will be created in a loving environment and our view of the world will change as every last cell is replaced.

    If you only had a short period to live wouldn't you choose to live it in a loving way? So why not live in a loving environment everyday!

    We should all have a declaration page posted at our desk, on our computer's homepage, above our bed, on the refrigerator and wherever we will see it often. It should list the following statements.

    My Life's Mission: To Live a Life of Unconditional Love.
    After all love enriches life. Love is forgiveness, tolerance, respect, patience, looks for the innocence, its benevolent, and a lot more. Unconditional love has no pre-conditions; No if's - if your honest, if you keep your word, if you keep your room clean, if you do not make mistakes, if you manage your money well, if your of the right religion, race, class, profession... . Unconditional love is applied to everyone... no if's.

    My Goal: Peace of Mind
    Gerald G. Jampolsky, M.D., states we should only have one goal in life - Peace of Mind, everything else is a to-do item.

    My Dreams: A statement listing your income requirements, special needs, dream career, dream vacation, dream activity, etc.. And, watch for opportunities to pop-up that you other wise would have missed, that could help make your dreams come true.

    My Blessings: A statement of the blessings in your life. Helps to keep our blessings front and center, life positive and beautiful. A reminder that you do have something to be truly thankful for. Which intern helps us to make decisions from a positive frame of mind.

    Consider a...

    A Treasure Map This is fun for the kids and can remind you and the family of the to-do or accomplishment items and most importantly of the rewards and to reward everyone.

    You have the keys to your happiness; you have control over your mental attitude - your thoughts. You allow or disallow thoughts of unhappiness or stress. And, you can change them on the spot if you so wish. Try laughing, you don't need a funny story just laugh as if someone just told one as you drank some water and you clamped your mouth shut and laughed so hard water came out your nose. Smile really big and put some emotion behind it. Smile and yell with great enthusiasm YOUR AAAWWWSSSOMMMEEE!!!! If you do your body will adopt your new disposition and you will be happier.

    Make someone else happy, make their day, simply complement them on something they said, their smile or something they are wearing. When you do you will become happier yourself. Make it a point to enhance the day of 5 people - everyday. If people are not around then talk to your plants, your pet, or the plants and animals (at a safe distance) outdoors and tell them they look wonderful today. The love you give creates love in yourself and brightens your day.

    Be of service to others; find something that you can do for those who need help. There are many programs such as Rake Up the Town in the fall or Paint the Town, where people rake leaves in the fall for the elderly, or paint the houses of the poor. The newspapers often have a section for the social needs of a community. By helping others you will enrich your own life and self-worth.

    Read something wonderful and mentally nourishing every morning and every night. I highly recommend the books Love As A Way Of Life - Seven Keys To Transforming Every Aspect Of Your Life by Gary Chapman, Love Is The Answer - Creating Positive Relationships by authors Gerald G. Jampolsky, M.D. and his wife Diane V. Cirincione, Ph.D., and Simple Thoughts That Can Change Your Life by authors Gerald G. Jampolsky, M.D. and Diane V. Cirincione, Ph.D., this book gets to the root of happiness and love in this thought for the day format.

    Finally, one of the greatest gifts you can give someone is actively listening to him or her. Listening to the words, inflections, emotions, watching facial expressions and body language. When they are finished verify that you understand what they meant. Then pause and if they requested an answer or reply think about it and then answer. The time for thinking is after you are certain you understand, not while they are talking. Sometimes they do not want to be told how-too! - They just want to share their problem or issue and solve-it themselves. This one act of kindness and love can be wonderfully healing and is deeply appreciated.

    2. Rapid emotional relief from anxiety, guilt, fear and ending self-sabotage - for the freedom to live life, to excel at our careers and passions, and to preserve the family.

    As we go through life we accumulate impressions, thoughts, habits, fears, physical stresses that stress us emotionally and more. These become the box if you will that we live in. Our view of the world. Our burden. And, they influence our decisions.

    Where a problematic or distressing memory is coupled to a disruption in the bodies energy system, one has a negative emotion. All negative emotions are caused by disruptions in the energy system. Negative emotions include anger, fear, phobia, guilt, grief, traumatic memories, PTSD, anxiety, worry and depression. Also, negative emotions that limit ones success in business, sports or the arts are caused by disruptions in the bodies energy system.

    A case in point, up the street from me lives a young pit bull. On six occasions this pit bull has gotten out and charged my dog and me. The pit bull gets more and more fearless as she realizes nothing happens to her - there is no consequence. Now mind you on each of these occasions I was in the street, one, and two houses down, she is coming forty to seventy feet to get at my dog and me. The last time I was alone and she came within two inches of my leg. She is relentless and a neighbor has had to call her off the last three times. One morning I was walking my dog and a large dog barked, I froze, what caught me by surprise was my fear, which did not exist prior pit bull incidents. The world or box I live in changed, and, I didn't even realize it until that moment. Life is like that, as we experience and store impressions they very subtly shape the way we view and react to the world we live in.

    Some times we have to think outside the box. Sometimes our doctors beat us to it! Gary Craig a Stanford graduate created a program called Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT. Prior to Gary Craig's retirement, fifteen doctors sat on the Advisory Board. Over 300,000 downloaded Craig's free training manual. Over 80,000 serious (and curious) EFT'ers were subscribed to his EFT Newsletter. I highly recommend you download the EFT manual and try it, you'll find it at EFTUniverse.com. Read the testimonials, search for various issues. Read the Personal Peace Procedure, and The Palace of Possibilities. Be sure and take time to watch the video's under Resources.

    EFT clears disruptions in the body's energy system. In doing so it relieves the emotional aspect or negative emotion of the memory.

    One area that EFT addresses is PR or Psychological Reversal. Psychological Reversal could be in play where a person who wants to loose weight but every time sabotages their diet at some point. The individual who attempts to quit smoking but always goes back to smoking. Psychological Reversal can be in play in cases of chronic or degenerative disease, addictions, golfers slump or any case of self-sabotage.

    As powerful and wonderful as EFT is, couples will find it very enriching to help each other (and their family) with EFT. One as the recipient the other acting as the guide/advisor. And, doing the tapping for the recipient is even more enriching, strengthening the bonds between them.

    The guide/advisor must work very hard to keep themselves out of the way. This is solely about the recipient - it's intuitive. The partner guide/advisor listens to what the recipient is saying, their emotions, and ask questions that come to mind. And, yes there is more to it than that, but try it!     The Basic Recipe

     

    Select an issue to work on and estimate the emotional intensity of the issue. Rated on a scale or zero to ten, ten being the most emotional and zero equals clear - no emotional pain or intensity. To begin with select something easy and well defined with an emotional intensity of 5-8. Be specific, a clearly defined issue is easier to take to zero. If you take on the whole forest you won't see results as clearly and it will take longer.

    Note: if you don't know the cause or roots of an emotional issue or physical pain tap using the emotion or pain as the issue. Where a physical pain is the manifestation of emotional issue the physical pain may disappear after tapping.

    The Setup is the starting point for the Basic Recipe. While tapping on the Sore Spot (locate the top of the u in the breastbone, drop 3 inches then go 3inches towards you left arm) or the Karate Chop point (KC - see below) repeat the following sequence three times. Note: This part of the Basic Recipe and actually eliminates Psychological Reversal.

    Even though I have this (ISSUE), I like myself deeply and completely.

    One can also add a forgiveness part to the middle of the setup phrase. "I forgive myself for my part and everyone who had anything to do with it completely". Or, "I do not feel it but I want to forgive _____" or, "I do not want to at this time but I know I should forgive _____ as I know it harms my physical and mental health to hold a grudge or to hate...". This is a very powerful add-on to the middle of the setup phrase.

    Note: each part of this Setup statement is important.

     

    Tapping Points - First Round. Use two fingers, your index and middle fingers to tap gently on the following points 7-10 times each, in the order listed.

    And, repeat a Reminder Phrase = (ISSUE) as you tap. Note some times the emotion is so intense and present that the reminder phrase may be left off in the beginning rounds.

    EB - Eyebrow (end of eyebrow near nose).

    SE - Side of the eye (side nearest ear).

    UE - Under the eye (bone below the pupil of the eye).

    UN - Under the nose.

    Ch - Chin (junction of the chin and lip).

    CB - Collarbone (junction where the breastbone collarbone and first rib meet). Note I like to use 4 fingers when tapping on this point.

    UA - Underarm (side of body even with nipple for men, middle of bra strap for women). Note I like to use 4 fingers when tapping on this point.

    BN - Below nipple (1 inch below the nipple for men, where the under skin of the breast meets the chest wall for women).

    Th - Thumb (Outside side of thumb at the base of the thumbnail).

    IF - Index finger (side of finger facing thumb at base of fingernail).

    MF - Middle finger (side of finger facing thumb at base of fingernail).

    BF - Baby finger (side of finger facing thumb at base of fingernail).

    KC - Karate chop (the meaty part of the side of the hand between the knuckle and the wrist).

     

    The 9 Gamut Procedure

    While Tapping on the Gamut Point - Between the knuckles of baby finger and the ring finger A half inch towards the wrist on the back of the hand.

    1. Eyes closed.

    2. Eyes open.

    3. Eyes hard down right.

    4. Eyes hard down left.

    5. Roll eyes in a wide circle.

    6. Roll eyes in a wide circle in the opposite direction.

    7. Hum 2 seconds of a song, perhaps happy birthday.

    8. Count to five.

    9. Hum 2 seconds of a song again.

    Note: Steps 7-9 must be preformed in the order listed.

    Note: The 9 Gamut Procedure is needed only 20% of the time. But is included in the Basic Recipe. Its purpose is to stimulate the brain and has been found to hasten progress when included between two rounds of the tapping sequence.

     

    Repeat the Tapping Points - Second Round.

    EB - Eyebrow

    SE - Side of the eye

    UE - Under the eye

    UN - Under the nose

    Ch - Chin

    CB - Collarbone

    UA - Underarm

    BN - Below nipple

    Th - Thumb

    IF - Index finger

    MF - Middle finger

    BF - Baby finger

    KC - Karate chop

    Re-estimate the emotional intensity of the issue. If it is one or above repeat the process until it is zero, clear.

    In any subsequent rounds adjust the Setup Statement with the following prefix - Even though I STILL HAVE SOME OF THIS (ISSUE) I deeply and completely like and accept myself.

    And, in subsequent rounds adjust the Reminder Phrase with the following prefix - Remaining (ISSUE).

     

    Aspects

    Emotional issues can have many aspects. Let's say one is afraid of flying, they may also be afraid of taking off, landing, turbulence, looking down out the window, loosing their baggage, seeing the pilot walking through the passenger area etc.. and each of these areas will have its own emotional intensity. Each aspect has to be tapped on. As one aspect's intensity gets lower than another aspect's one tends to notice the higher intensity aspect and jump around. This is neither good nor bad, but you may want to eliminate each aspect completely, otherwise you are simply topping the trees in the forest.

    Generalization Effect

    Sometime tapping on 5 - 10 related issues clears a whole forest of issues. This is a wonderful and time saving gift when it happens.

    Persistence

    Be persistent, set aside time everyday to tap. Keep a tapping journal and keep after an issue until it clears. Persistence pays.

    Tearless Trauma Technique

    At times the emotional intensity or pain will get worse. The clearing of aspects around a core issue that was buried and is now showing itself causes this. When this occurs work around this core issue, do not address it directly until the person feels the intensity has subsided enough to proceed with the core issue.

    If a person does not want to address an issue they should not address the issue. If they want to address issues around it, that's fine but they decide. If they don't want to address the issue and don't want the pain, tap to remove the pain and not touch the issue. I.E. A phrase similar to "Even though I have this issue I don't want to address, I do not need my body to bring up the emotional pain anymore".

    Tail Enders

    Have you ever attempted something and repeatedly failed or perhaps performed below your capability? Tail Enders may be the culprit. A Tail Ender is an add-on that sabotages the intention. An example is "I want to lose 20 pounds" the Tail Ender could be "But if I do it could be dangerous as I would then be attractive." Or "If I do, I'll have to buy a whole new wardrobe and then I'll gain it all back again - I always do!" Tap on all the Tail Enders you can think of around your intention. Craft the setup phrase to include the Tail Ender.

    Tapping Journal

    One should keep a Tapping Journal, tracking what you have tapped on and noting areas that need to be tapped on as you think of them. By tracking you know if you cleared an issue or if you need to tap some more on it. You should tap to improve your life about 20 minutes a day. It is easy to let it go but you be surprised at the increase in the quality of your life after a few months if you take a moment to look back. Work on personal issues, The Personal Peace Procedure (EFT Manual pg. 65) and The Palace of Possibilities (Index www.emofree.com).

    I highly recommend people learn EFT and help themselves to be free of the emotional stresses of life. Emotional Freedom Techniques clear the pain of emotional scars (which can impact or manifest itself physically) and ends self-sabotage - so we can enjoy life, and love again.

    Introduction to Metabolic Typing - For Health, Weight and Peak Performance.

    Each one of us is different physically inside and out. Even our organs vary in size and not uniformly. We have faced different stresses throughout our lives. We simply have different nutritional requirements.

    Metabolic typing addresses not only the appropriate foods for our type protein, carbo or mixed. But also the appropriate ratio of macro nutrients 40-30-30, 25-15-60 etc. (protein-fat-carbohydrate) fine-tuned to each individual.

    For vibrant health and immunity and to perform at our best physically and mentally requires the right fuel. As each of us is unique we require different fuel mixtures. Metabolic Typing addresses our unique fuel requirements.

    Metabolic typing has existed in one form or another since early time. India's Ayurvedic medicine is over 5,000 years old and has three constitutional types or Doshas.     Beyond the Basic Metabolic Types...

    There are two systems that play a role in the selections of foods we eat, the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and the Oxidative System. The ANS is the master regulator of the body, and the oxidative system controls energy conversion. Eat an orange, if it speeds you up, you feel hyper, you want to whistle, your Oxidative Dominant, if it slows you down lethargic, hypo, your Autonomic Dominant. Try eating red meat, if it slows you down, lethargic, hypo, your Oxidative Dominant, if it speeds you up and you feel hyper your Autonomic Dominant. While this is very basic it gives you an idea of metabolic typing.

    The Dominant type is important as to the foods one should eat. The Sub-dominance is an important indicator where both the dominant and subdominant tend to be acidic (or alkaline) as in the Fast Oxidizer Dominant / Sympathetic Sub-dominant individual, and in rare metabolic types. The endocrine system comes into play where more than 10 pounds of weight loss is desired. We really can consume foods that help us attain our top performance and our ideal weight.

    The basic metabolic types are fine starting points but there is more to it than simply eating more protein or carbohydrates. A Protein type is actually either Parasympathetic or Fast Oxidizer Dominant; A carbo type is actually Sympathetic or a Slow Oxidizer Dominant each with different nutritional requirements. There are actually 9 combinations of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and the Oxidation System that Basic Types represent. This is important to know because the foods required for optimum health will be somewhat different.

    For instance if a Parasympathetic dominant whose system tends to be more alkaline eats red meat, it has the effect of balancing and pushes the system toward being more acid, it is stimulating to the system you feel more hyper and perky. However, if a Fast Oxidizer who tends to be more acidic eats red meat, while it still balances it pushes the system towards being more alkaline, it slows down the oxidation rate and the effect is that it slows you down, lethargic, depressed, hypoactive. Yet both are known as Protein types. Let's take the orange, an orange will slow down (imbalance, pushes alkaline) the Parasympathetic dominant and will speed up the Fast Oxidizer (imbalances, pushes toward being even more acidic.). The same foods while balancing the system are having completely different reactions.

    Do you see the mental side of all this? If one is physically healthy but lethargic and tired (alkaline) all the time, or hyper (acid) all the time, he may be eating the wrong foods for his dominant type. Let's say a person is a fast oxidizer dominant (tends to be acid) and his sub-dominance is sympathetic (tends to be acid also) if he ate an orange it would be imbalancing and the persons anxiety level would go way up, perhaps be very hyper or even bouncing off the walls.     Importance of Metabolic Typing

    If we eat quality organic foods that are metabolically correct for us as individuals we can balance our body chemistry, attain our ideal weight, improve our health and operate at our peak performance level. If we consume organic foods that are prepared from scratch we will slowly eliminate chemicals from our bodies allowing for even better performance and health.

    The quality of the metabolic test affects the results you get. You want to know your Dominant and Sub-dominant type. The Sub-dominant type comes into play for the individual who as in the example above where both the dominant and the sub-dominant type tended to be acid (or alkaline) and also in rare metabolic types.

    Healthy Oil & Fats - They're Not What You Think!

    Healthy fats are pastured animal products, high quality organic coconut, palm oil, flax oil, fish oil, cod-liver oil and olive oil. Fats are important to cell structure and our health.

    Some of the healthiest actually increase our metabolism raising our body temperature, which helps in burning calories. They are organic non-commercial oils. You will find them over the Internet, mail order, and in health food stores. So what are these fats and oils? They are not what you are prepared to hear. Remember the egg fiasco? Eggs are bad for you... now eggs are good once again. Truth, eggs from quality free-range "pasture" raised hens are and always were good for you. And, the yolk is the healthiest part. They are MAP pressed Olive oil for salad dressings, and, Quality grass-fed "pastured" (not grain-fed) preferably organic, non-processed animal meats. Certified organic dairy products, whole milk and butter (preferably raw, not homogenized and never ultra-pasteurized). And, organic extra virgin coconut oil (preferred) and high quality palm oils. Note that these oils are very close to true natural products and are an important part of a good diet.

    Where's the research? For starters read the Women’s Health Initiative: Reducing Total Fat Intake May Have Small Effect on Risk of Breast Cancer, No Effect on Risk of Colorectal Cancer, Heart Disease, or Stroke. Also read Know Your Fats: The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils and Cholesterol by Mary G. Enig, Ph.D., and Eat Fat Lose Fat by Mary G. Enig, Ph.D., and Sally Fallon, President of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Then Read The Cholesterol Myth by Uffe Ravnskov and, The Cholesterol Conspiracy by Russell L. Smith, Ph.D., (page 122, In sum, the scientific evidence overwhelmingly shows no connection between diet, blood cholesterol and CHD for women.). Russel L. Smith lists 125 pages or 2548 references, 102 pages of appendixes. He reviews the important blood cholesterol studies, the measurement of blood cholesterol, and the drugs used to lower blood cholesterol. To be informed on the issue of blood cholesterol these are important books to read. You will also find in the two books on cholesterol that men over 53 with high cholesterol have fewer heart attacks than men with low cholesterol. Read them for yourself and get all the facts - it's that important. Want more? Read Russell L. Smith's complete work Diet, Blood Cholesterol and Coronary Heart Disease Part 1 and Part 2. Another source on animal foods is Pasture Perfect (Formerly Why Grassfed is Best!) by Jo Robinson.

    As of January 1, 2006, companies must list the amount of trans-fat in a product. Amounts below .5 grams per serving can be listed as 0. (Conjugated linoleic acid a natural occurring trans-fat formed in the rumen of ruminant animals is specifically excluded from the FDA's definition of trans-fats). The FDA's regulatory definition of trans fatty acid is all unsaturated fatty acids that contain one or more isolated (i.e., nonconjugated) double bonds in a trans configuration.

    The problem, really small serving size, if one eats 4 servings and the product contains .49 grams of trans fats, you just consumed 1.96 grams of trans fats from one snack or meal item. So you still do not know how much you are consuming.

    Again healthy fats are pastured animal products, high quality organic coconut, palm oil, flax oil, fish oil, cod-liver oil and olive oil. Fats are important to cell structure and our health.

     

    Food Additives - Friend and Foe

    There are over 14,000 food additives and it has been said we consume 4-7 pounds per year. Individually they are mostly said to be safe. The real question is what are the synergistic effects of the different chemicals on our mental and physical health? You can buy products with short lists of ingredients and products that don't list funny names, natural flavors, flavors, sulfites, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. You can also buy produce that is sprayed less www.ewg.org/foodnews. The best and healthiest meal is one you cooked from scratch using organic ingredients - it is the only way to know what is in your food.

    The FDA states a food additive is in its broadest sense anything added to food, legally the term food additive covers much more. And, the FDA feels they are very important.

    All ingredients do not have to be listed. If an ingredient makes up a minute portion of a product or an "ingredient" used to make the product it does not have to be listed unless it is a major food allergen.

    Artificial sweeteners are in thousands of different food items, they not only sweeten they also stimulate the appetite thus one consumes more. Take a look at these sites on artificial sweeteners, Dorway.com, and the FDA on Aspartame.

    The best and healthiest meal is one you cooked from scratch using organic ingredients - it is the only way to know what is in your food. And, perhaps raise your own produce organically. Otherwise, you can't escape food additives.

    You can buy products with short lists of ingredients and products that don't list funny names, natural flavors, flavors, sulfites, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. You can also buy produce that is sprayed less EWG2. And, you can buy only American produce as foreign (non-organic certified) farmers can legally use sprays banned in the U.S.A. then legally export them to the United States. Buying organic processed food does not guarantee additive free, just organic which is far better as you will see in the next lesson.

    There are numerous books on the subject. The real question is what are the synergistic effects of the different chemicals on our mental and physical health?

    Foods can and do effect our mental outlook, temperament, and our reactions. Through known and unknown food allergies. Our level of protein, carbohydrate or sugar tolerance - levels outside our individual ideal ratio. Junk foods, sugared drinks and alcohol. This has been documented in books such as Food and Behavior by Barbara Reed Stitt, Diet, Crime And Delinquency by Alexander Schauss, Nutrition and Your Mind - The Psychochemical Response by George Watson and The Metabolic Typing Diet by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey.

     

    Organic vs. Commercial foods

    Organic foods are foods raised and processed without synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, sewer sludge, artificial hormones, antibiotics, irradiation, genetically modified organisms, etc. Livestock and poultry must be fed organic feed and/or grazed on organically certified pasture. Access to pasture is required for livestock. However, certain chemicals and sprays deemed natural or safe and/or necessary are allowed and some flexibility is allowed in animal pasturing under the Organic Standard.

    Historically all food was organic. Then about 1800 a German scientist created the first chemical fertilizer and a global industry was born. In both 2001 and 2002, more than 5 billion pounds of pesticides were used worldwide. The United States of America used over 1.2 billion pounds in both 2001 and 2002. Read the EPA Report. Later, an organic food industry developed and in 1990 the United States Department of Agriculture authorized The Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) .

    The Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) was enacted under Title 21 of the 1990 Farm Bill. In April 1995, the NOSB defined "organic". The final national organic standards rule was published in the Federal Register on December 21, 2000. The law was activated April 21, 2001. And, anyone who grew or marketed "organic" products was required to comply with the rule as of October 21, 2002. See the National Organic Program.

    Reported in the Well Being Journal March/April 2002, Irradiation of foods creates new chemicals not in existence naturally or man made prior to food irradiation. These chemicals are toxic and have not been tested by the FDA …

    The Environmental Working Group2 states that do to mercury content pregnant women should not eat: Tuna steaks, Sea bass, Gulf Coast oysters, Marlin, Halibut, Pike, Walleye, White croaker, and Largemouth bass. These they say are in addition to the FDA's recommendation to entirely avoid Swordfish, Shark, King mackerel and Tilefish. Read the entire report EWG2.

    EPA's Draft Report - Consumption of Fish and Shellfish.

    MSG Resource foods to avoid (an eye-opener), information, links.... Sadly, the EPA is now allowing MSG to be sprayed on crops even organic crops. At this time I do not know any other way around this (unless you know the farmer or buy directly from him at the farmers market and ask if he sprays with MSG) than to grow your own produce. If you're so inclined the book Solar Gardening - Growing Vegetables Year-Round the American Intensive Way by Leandre Poisson and Gretchen Vogel Poisson, has plans for building Solar Pods or year-round planter boxes. Remember to build them extra-strong and safe in every way!

    Body Chemical Burden A wonderful list researched by the Environmental Working Group2.

    There is also the environmental aspect. In North America Atrazine is the most commonly used weed killer. It can be found in rainwater, snow runoff and ground water. Tyrone B. Hayes of the University of California at Berkley states "There is virtually no Atrazine free environment". - Idaho Statesman April 16, 2002.

    Organic produce is higher in nutrition than commercial produce and has fewer chemicals and pesticides. (Note: depending on the farm some pesticides can still be in the soil years after conversion to organic production.) While organic produce is more expensive, you will be healthier. Try it for 12 months with one of the metabolic typing programs, then switch back to commercial produce from EWG's2 least sprayed list and normal vitamin supplements or none at all. See if you don't believe you were actually healthier, had more immunity, bounced back from illness a lot faster with organic produce, pastured meats and metabolically correct supplements (or w/o them).

    Balancing the Benefits and Costs

    We can to the best of our financial ability, change our shopping and life style habits to allow more time to prepare made from scratch meals of organic (and/or) least sprayed produce, organic (when possible) pasture fed animal products or the highest quality combination we can afford. The more organic we can afford to add to the mix the healthier we will be.

    Tips:

  • Shopping from home saves time.
  • Buying in bulk saves time and money.
  • Eliminating processed foods & snacks, flavored drinks, soft drinks and alcohol saves money and is a lot healthier.
  • The Farmers Market should have just picked ripe organic produce and you can talk to the farmer yourself. Picked-ripe produce is far healthier than produce picked green.
  • I have heard of a village that when a couple is considering having a child the couple is put on the best foods the village had a full year before conception. This was to give the child the best and strongest start. It also built a stronger healthier community. Every community on the planet should adopt this practice of supplying the hopeful couple the best foods a full year before conception. And, it should be continued through the child's second or third year.
